This course is designed to be accessible for the beginner who is keen to know more and for those who want to go further with their work on classical texts. If you want to explore your favourite scenes/characters, and make new discoveries, and new insights with familiar texts, this is the place to workshop and get playful with what you already know, and exchange the “hard work”, for “hard play”, and have fun.

What will I be doing?
You will be studying verse speaking technique, with a variety of texts exemplifying different periods in Shakespeare’s development, as well as texts by his contemporaries. You will look at a variety of techniques on how to explore texts and open up their meaning. The choice of the scenes will reflect prose as well as verse, comedy and tragedy, early, middle and late Shakespeare. You will also look at the “set pieces” of the canon – soliloquies, and major speeches which can be used for audition purposes.
