Open Days

Deciding which drama school will suit you best is a difficult process. Visiting at an Open Day is the best way of finding out how a school operates, its 'feel' and its identity.

Visit as many drama schools as possible so you have a sense of what's out there. Prospectuses and websites are very informative, but there's a lot to be said for gut instinct - come and judge for yourself.

Note down questions and concerns before you come and ask as many different people as you can - students, teachers and administration staff. Bring a friend or family - it's useful to have someone to bounce ideas and opinions off afterwards.

The Question and Answer session after the matinee performance is your chance to meet students in their final year at ALRA – they’re getting ready to launch themselves into the professional world. Find out how ALRA's helped them to reach the stage they have.

Feedback

I’ve been to many open days this year; but this is the first thank you that ive felt compelled to write after my visit to your Open Day last Saturday (15th). I was very impressed with your students’ honesty and advice with regards to their own experiences. The staff were also honest and enthusiastic furthermore I felt the open day was long enough for visitors to get a true sense of your school. I got the feeling that the students were real individuals – which was a symbol of the school’s emphasis as a whole; training realistic, individual actors. As an actor who has these qualities ingrained in me, I look forward to auditioning for you soon.

Thankyou very much for a valuable, relaxed experience.

'I attended the Open Day at ALRA 27th October! Just emailing to say thank you for the day, I learnt a lot about the school and students, I found it very useful talking to the students and was able to ask the questions I needed to.

The matinee performance was fantastic, I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought the standard of the performance was brilliant. I felt very welcome to the school and was impressed by what I saw. Again, thank you for the experience and I look forward to applying to ALRA and auditioning for 2011.'

'Thank you for the Open Day on Wednesday 3rd March... I thought the atmosphere at the school was wonderful.'

'Every question I had was answered in the talk and by helpful students... They were all very polite and encouraging and also honest.'

'The whole day was fantastic. I have learnt so much more about the culture and the learning experience than I could ever have read in a prospectus.'
