Applying for the Three Year Acting course

Where you audition does NOT affect your campus choice.

Applicants for the Three Year Acting course should use our online application system to submit their details, upload a photo and pay the £35 audition fee.

Click the 'Online Application Button' (right) to commence the process. Please ensure you have a suitable digital photo available, and debit card or Paypal details to hand.

During the application process you will have the opportunity to select from a choice of available audition dates; this choice may be limited at the beginning or end of the entry cycle. You will receive confirmation of your audition date by email at the end of the application process, along with relevant audition guidelines and information on how to find us.

All subsequent correspondence from ALRA will be by email only unless specifically requested. Please ensure your email address is correct. If you have not heard from us in 10 working days please check your inbox, junk mail and spam filter before contacting us.

Application Deadline

Applications are accepted from September onwards. We do not have a definitive deadline for applications, but our last auditions take place in April, and the online application system will close when the last dates are fully booked; you are strongly advised to submit your application before the beginning of April in order to ensure that your application is accepted. If further auditions are scheduled, we may accept applications after this date, but you should assume that the April audition is the last opportunity to be seen.

Deferred Entry

We are unable to consider applications for deferred entry to any of the Acting courses, neither can entry be deferred if you successfully audition and are offered a place.

International Applicants

ALRA welcomes applications from international candidates whose written and spoken English is of a level appropriate to professional actor training. This will be assessed at audition.

Non-EU applicants must obtain a student visa to cover the duration of their studies.

Attendance at a scheduled ALRA audition is compulsory. Pre-recorded audition videos are not acceptable; however ALRA can view international applicants' audition videos as a precursor to inviting them for a full audition.

ALRA does not accept students on short-term basis taking part in the Erasmus programme.

Auditions

Entry to the Acting courses is by audition only.

There is a non-refundable £35 audition fee for the Three Year Acting course. Eligible applicants can be considered for the Three Year Acting course and the Postgraduate Acting course at the same audition; only one fee is charged.

Auditions take place at ALRA North and ALRA South, at our out of town auditions in Edinburgh and Bristol, and at schools and colleges who are part of our Outreach Programme.

Wherever you audition the process will be conducted by ALRA staff members and will be fair and rigorous. In all instances you will be asked to present two contrasting monologues of not more than two minutes each.

Annually we audition more than 1200 applicants. Due to the large numbers of candidates applying, we regret that we are unable to provide individual feedback. The decision of the school is final.
