Science genius Luke finally has the time to work on his incredible machine, holed up in his new flat on a near-abandoned Middlesbrough housing estate.
But when his unbalanced brother Rob introduces him to a wealthy outsider with designs on his invention, Luke is thrown into a dangerous world that threatens to tear him and his brother apart, and possibly the universe itself.
BRILLIANT ADVENTURES is a quirky comedy about brotherhood, addiction, and breaking the laws of physics.
Written by Alistair McDowall (currently on attachment with Paines Plough and Channel 4), BRILLIANT ADVENTURES was awarded a Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting in 2011 and was part of the Royal Court Theatre’s Young Writers Festival 2012. It is directed by Caroline Steinbeis (JMK award winner 2009).‘Working on Brilliant Adventures will be a fantastic challenge. Alistair McDowall has created a world where the extraordinary is entirely ordinary and he has managed to convince us all to go along with it. I can’t wait to see the Studio burst to life with this play.’ Caroline Steinbeis, Director."Alistair McDowall is, I think, the most exciting playwright to emerge out of English theatre in the past five years. BRILLIANT ADVENTURES is a bold, touching play. Its range, wit and humanity astonishes and inspires me by turns. He makes me want to try harder. He makes me want to write better." Simon Stephens, Playwright.
