The Radio Studio

ALRA has a dedicated Radio Drama Studio equipped with digital recording and editing equipment.

The system has two digital mixing desks with sixteen track recording capability and the system is based around an Apple Mac G5 with a combination of Soundtrack Pro and Final Cut Studio editing software.

The studio is equipped with stereo microphones and cue lights and a wide number of acoustics can be created by configuring the room in different ways.

Students work on previously broadcast radio scripts from plays, series and serials.

In the control room there is equipment for playing and burning CDs as well as professional recording capability for DAT and compact cassette tapes. Pre-recorded music and effects therefore can played into productions and used to create backgrounds and moods.

Editing is done on the G5 to produce a professional standard of production. A portable DAT recorder is used for any location sound recording required.

The Radio Drama Studio doubles as a voice over and narration recording suite when required.

Although the main emphasis of the course is on acting for mic, students gain 'hands on' experience of all aspects of sound recording, for example studio managing operating Spot, Panel and Grams. They also have training in editing and other aspects of sound production.
