Yes. Both the Three Year Acting course and Postgraduate Acting course are accredited by the National Council for Drama Training (NCDT). Graduates of either course receive Equity membership as standard.

If you are unable to attend your allocated audition date, please contact the Registrar as soon as possible to reschedule. Similarly, if you accept your date and are subsequently unable to attend, contact the Registrar. Your audition can be rearranged, if possible, but only if you notify ALRA in good time.

For the Three Year Acting course, the maximum intake is 32 students at ALRA South, and 32 students at ALRA North.

For the Postgraduate Acting course, the maximum intake is 16 students at ALRA South, and 16 students at ALRA North. For the Stage Management & Technical Theatre Foundation Degree and the Foundation Acting course, the maximum intake is 15 students.

We see around 10 applicants for every place, on each course.

No. Applications must be submitted in the entry cycle immediately prior to the year of entry.

No. it is not possible to join the Three Year Acting course at any stage after the first term of the 1st Year. All candidates must be seen at audition and complete their whole training at ALRA.

Auditions for full-time Acting courses take place at both campuses from October through until May, normally in the half-terms and holiday periods. We also audition once a year in Manchester, Edinburgh, and Bristol during February and March. This year's dates are available to view as part of the online application process. Foundation Acting auditions take place at both campuses from May onwards.

No. Attendance at a scheduled audition/interview is the only route of entry to ALRA courses.

No, unfortunately not. We audition more than 1000 applicants a year. Due to the large numbers of candidates applying, we regret that we are unable to provide individual feedback. The decision of the school is final.

The Three Year Acting course leads to:

• BA (Hons) Acting (awarded by the University of Greenwich)
• Level 6 Diploma in Professional Acting (awarded by Trinity College, London)

The Postgraduate Acting course leads to:

• MA Professional Acting (awarded by the University of Greenwich)
• Level 5 Diploma in Professional Acting (awarded by Trinity College, London)

The Stage Management course leads to:

• Foundation Degree in Stage Management & Technical Theatre (awarded by the University of Greenwich)

This varies. There is no upper age limit on any ALRA course; students are accepted on the basis of ability, irrespective of age. Students on the Three Year Acting course are commonly between 18 and 25, but it is not unusual for students of 30+ to begin the course. On the Postgraduate Acting course, students must be 21 or over, but applications are regularly received from students in their 40s and older. The Stage Management & Technical Theatre course normally attracts 18 year olds, but often students come to the course seeking a career change, or looking for a qualification having already worked in the industry for a few years.

Studying on a full-time course at ALRA means studying from 9am -6.30pm Monday to Friday, regardless of which course you are on. 1st Year Acting student begin at 8:45am and Stage Management & Technical Theatre students are expected to stay for evening work during tech and performance weeks of the public productions (at least twice a term). Foundation Acting classes take place on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 7-9pm, and Saturdays from 10am-1pm.

Yes. The Foundation Acting course is part-time, two evenings and a Saturday each week. In addition, ALRA regularly run short courses in a variety of subjects. Check the 'Other Courses' page for further information.

Three Year Acting course fees are £11,995 per year at ALRA South, and £8,650 per year at ALRA North. Postgraduate Acting course fees are £13,750 per year at ALRA South, and £9,845 per year at ALRA North. Both courses have a large number of funded places. Stage Management & Technical Theatre fees are currently set at £3,375 per year. Foundation Acting fees are £1,500 per year.

Yes. Both the full-time Acting courses are part-funded by the Dance and Drama Award (DaDA) scheme. Tuition fees are reduced to £1,275 per year for the students who show the most potential at audition. The school’s allocation of awards is reassessed annually, but has been in the region of 20 for the last several years on the Three Year Acting course, and five on the Postgraduate Acting course. DaDA recipients are also eligible to apply for assistance with their remaining fees and living expenses.

No. ALRA accepts cheques, postal orders, bankers' drafts and direct bank transfers only.

No. Students at ALRA live in privately-rented accommodation in the surrounding area. We do arrange an Accommodation Day for the summer before you start with us, where First Years can meet each other and team up to look for houses together.
